Typically, care costs are calculated separately from the base monthly rent. Monthly rent for a resident in assisted living can start anywhere from $3,000 to about $7,000. Care assistance, or a "Level of Care", can start between $200 - $3,500. Rates increase by an average of 5% annually.

Most senior living communities including memory care, accept private pay, long-term care insurance, and veteran aid benefits. Some other financial options include renting or selling their home, using a reverse mortgage (borrowing money based on the equity of your home), and/or accessing any pensions and savings.
